Wellumio has raised $9.75 million in an oversubscribed pre-Series A financing round to accelerate development of its portable, AI-powered MRI system for rapid stroke diagnosis at the point of care.

The funding, backed by new investors Bioshore Ventures and Jumpspace Ventures alongside existing investors, will support clinical validation, product development, regulatory activities, commercialization, and expansion of the company’s workforce. Wellumio’s Axana system is designed to deliver bedside brain imaging in emergency settings without the need for helium, contrast agents, or dedicated MRI suites.

“Every minute counts in stroke care, yet only a small proportion of patients receive treatment within the ‘golden hour,’” said Dr. Shieak Tzeng, Co-founder and CEO of Wellumio. “Our portable, AI-enhanced MRI-based brain imaging technology is designed to rapidly detect acute stroke at the point of care, helping clinicians make faster treatment decisions when time matters most.”

The company recently secured a U.S. patent for its imaging technology and is continuing clinical studies as it works toward regulatory approval and broader adoption of its portable MRI platform.
