MMI (Medical Microinstruments, Inc.), the robotics company behind the Symani Surgical System, has raised $125 million in Series D financing. The raise comes as MMI reports approximately 50 installed systems and 3,500 complex microsurgical procedures performed worldwide with Symani. The capital will support commercial expansion in the U.S. and key global markets and fund clinical trials and outcomes data, including the REMIND study, to broaden the system's applications. MMI also plans continued platform development in areas such as energy instruments and digital surgery capabilities.

The company works with hospitals to build robotic microsurgery programs for delicate procedures including cancer and trauma-related reconstruction, lymphatic repair, and nerve repair. BioStar founder Dr. Louie Cannon pointed to cancer-related lymphedema as an area where the technology is already showing capabilities medicine did not previously have.

For MMI, the round marks a shift from proving demand at leading institutions to building scale. CEO Mark Toland said the focus is "translating that adoption into scale." For the broader MedTech space, the financing adds to heavy capital flowing into surgical robotics, a category where larger players are also investing, including Medtronic's recent $700 million partnership with Cornerstone Robotics. MMI's microsurgical niche sits apart from the soft-tissue platforms most competitors target.
