Medtronic will distribute Sentire alongside its existing Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system, giving the Galway, Ireland-headquartered company two robotic-assisted surgery platforms within its broader connected surgical ecosystem. Matt Anderson, senior vice president and president of Medtronic's Surgical business, said the investment reflects varying needs across surgeons, health systems, and markets, positioning Medtronic as, in his words, the only company offering a two-platform robotic portfolio combined with its surgical ecosystem.

For Medtronic, the deal expands its footprint in international robotic-assisted surgery markets without waiting on Hugo's approval timeline in every region, while adding a second platform that can address different clinical or operational preferences. For Cornerstone Robotics, the partnership provides a well-resourced distribution channel to scale Sentire's global reach. For the broader MedTech space, the deal continues a trend of established surgical robotics players expanding through investment and distribution partnerships with earlier-stage robotics companies, rather than solely relying on internal platform development, as competition in robotic-assisted surgery continues to intensify globally.

Cornerstone Robotics founder and CEO Samuel Au said the company expects "physicians and patients alike" to be the greatest beneficiaries of the partnership as it expands market access.
