Distalmotion, the Swiss MedTech company behind the DEXTER Robotic Surgery System, has entered a senior secured term loan facility of up to $70 million with Perceptive Advisors. The capital will support continued expansion in the U.S. ambulatory surgery center (ASC) market and further development of DEXTER and its instrument portfolio.

DEXTER is a soft tissue surgical robot with a small, mobile footprint and fully wristed single-use instruments, designed to fit any operating room without modifications and to reduce sterile processing needs. In the U.S., it is cleared for the four highest-volume outpatient soft tissue procedures: cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, ventral hernia repair, and hysterectomy, among others.
For Distalmotion, the facility follows a $150 million Series G reported last year and adds debt capital while the company builds its commercial presence in ASCs. Perceptive portfolio manager Sam Chawla said DEXTER is “purpose-built for the ongoing shift of high-volume surgery to the ASC.” CEO Greg Roche said the funds will help strengthen the company’s U.S. commercial presence and continue optimizing DEXTER for ASC patients, surgeons, and administrators.
For the broader MedTech space, the deal reflects growing competition to bring robotics to outpatient settings, where cost, footprint, and workflow matter as much as capability. Other robotics companies, including Virtual Incision with its MIRA system, are also targeting lower-cost sites of care.
