MaxQ Medical, a health-tech company based in Sunnyvale, California, has closed a $31.5 million Series A financing round led by Olympus Innovation Ventures, Atlantic Blue Ventures, and S3 Ventures, with continued participation from existing investor Hillside Capital. The round marks the first spinout financing from Orchard Ultrasound Innovation. Funds will go toward growing the team and advancing clinical programs for the company's namesake platform, which combines advanced imaging with tissue-selective therapy in a single transurethral procedure.

The platform's first target is benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), a condition affecting an estimated 40 million men in the US according to the Urology Care Foundation. Unlike approaches that treat the prostate from outside, MaxQ's system is designed to give urologists full visibility inside the gland and the ability to treat what they see in one session, while aiming to preserve the urethra and limit side effects such as bleeding and sexual dysfunction, common concerns with existing options like TURP or Boston Scientific's Rezūm.
For MaxQ, the raise validates a platform still in the investigational stage, with the company stating the MaxQ system is not yet cleared for commercial use in the US. For the broader MedTech space, it reflects continued strategic investor appetite, from Olympus in particular, for combined diagnostic-and-treatment platforms in urology, an area where BPH has long been treated with tools that either fall short or carry meaningful trade-offs.
CEO Amir Tehrani said the system is designed to offer the durability of gold-standard resective therapies "with side-effects more comparable to" minimally invasive alternatives. Beyond BPH, MaxQ plans to expand into focal therapy for prostate cancer and, longer term, into broader prostate diagnostics including biopsy and tumor mapping.
