Latest Medtech News

Piomic Medical, a Zurich-based ETH startup focused on deep tissue regeneration, has closed a $25 million growth financing round led by a CHF 10 million commitment from Swisscanto, the growth fund of Zürcher Kantonalbank's asset management division, marking the fund's first MedTech investment. Existing shareholders including Diabetes Venture Fund, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Verve Ventures, Sky Stiftung, N&V Capital, and a Swiss single family office also participated, alongside new institutional investors. The round brings Piomic's total funding, across equity, convertible capital, and non-dilutive grants, to more than $50 million.

Proceeds will fund completion of the company's clinical program, including the MAVERICKS IDE pivotal trial and the European NAZARÉ trial, support a US market approval filing, and fund expansion of Piomic's COMS platform beyond wound care into areas including infection management, sports medicine, and ophthalmology. The company's lead product, the COMS One Therapy System, is a portable, non-invasive device for non-healing wounds, holding FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and CE marking under the EU Medical Device Regulation.

For Piomic, the round arrives with an unusually developed reimbursement position ahead of US approval, including CPT III codes in effect since January 2025 and retained eligibility for CMS's Alternative Pathway to Medicare New Technology Add-on Payment under the finalized FY 2027 IPPS rule, a pathway now closed to new entrants. For the broader MedTech space, the deal reflects continued investor interest in advanced wound care technologies that combine strong clinical evidence with established reimbursement infrastructure, as the US market shifts toward more evidence-based coverage standards.

Swisscanto's Susanne K. Schorsch and Ellen Rietmann Ahl said the investment supports "a treatment modality that has the potential to assume a globally leading role in wound care."
