Curea Medical is a German advanced wound care manufacturer with differentiated superabsorbent dressing technology, fully integrated domestic manufacturing and an estimated 20% share of Germany's superabsorber segment, in a market growing at around 10% per year. Following a transition into PE ownership, the business set a clear ambition: to move from respected mid-market specialist to genuine international challenger. The foundations were strong. The international commercial engine was not yet built.

Challenge

The search was constrained in several directions at once. The successful candidate needed international commercial leadership experience, direct exposure to advanced wound care and, ideally, familiarity with the superabsorbent dressing market, a small and highly specialist category. German language capability was also required, despite the role being international in scope.

Curea Medical was well regarded within Germany but not widely recognized internationally. The compensation package had limitations relative to larger wound care groups, which meant attracting senior candidates required careful positioning of the opportunity rather than reliance on brand recognition.

The level of PE involvement added a further layer of complexity. This was the investor's first MedTech investment, and scrutiny around candidate quality, commercial credibility and strategic fit was significant throughout. The appointment had to satisfy both the operating company and an investor group still building conviction in the dynamics of the MedTech wound care market. Finding someone operationally capable was not enough. The candidate also needed to give the investor confidence that the commercial plan was executable.

Solution

Guided Solutions positioned the opportunity around transformation, not scale. This was a chance to help build the commercial identity of a PE-backed MedTech company with proprietary technology, strong manufacturing depth and a real opportunity to challenge larger, broader wound care players.

The brief was taken on 1 July 2025. Within just over three weeks, a shortlist of eight qualified profiles was delivered on 25 July 2025. Four candidates progressed to shortlist meetings.

The search focused on a specific international wound care candidate universe: leaders who understood distributor-led growth, European market access, clinical value messaging and the practical realities of scaling a smaller MedTech business. Because Curea Medical was not yet widely recognized internationally, candidate engagement required careful storytelling around the company's technology, the commercial case for superabsorbents versus foam dressings, the strength of its German manufacturing base and the growth ambition behind the new ownership.

The process was managed with a dual audience in mind. The management team needed a hands-on international sales leader. The investor needed evidence of strategic capability, market credibility and the maturity to support a value-creation plan. Two finalists progressed to face-to-face meetings in September. The extended timeline reflected the client's internal review process, not candidate generation or market access.

Result

The successful candidate was offered the role in October 2025, signed in November and started in December.

Guided Solutions completed the appointment within a four-month process, despite a narrow candidate pool, a German language requirement, significant PE scrutiny and a brief that required careful positioning to attract candidates of the right caliber.

The appointed candidate brought more than 20 years of medical device and life sciences experience, with a track record across international sales, marketing, business development, full P&L leadership and distributor-led growth. His background spanned advanced wound care, commercial transformation, international market expansion and building high-performing teams across Europe and emerging markets.

The appointment gave Curea Medical a credible international commercial leader able to professionalize distributor performance, drive international expansion and help move the company from specialist manufacturer to serious market challenger.

"This is a small, specialist market. Most recruiters do not know it exists. Guided Solutions came to the first conversation already understanding the category, the candidate pool and why the profile was hard to find. That made a significant difference to the quality of the process."

We'd love to hear what you're building
